Question Belt to bypass A/C pump?

My son has a '95 with 3.8l engine. The a/c pump is makeing all kind of rattles and ugly sounds. Is there a shorter fan belt I can put on his car to bypass the a/c pump until we have the time or the funds to repair or replace it?

I don't know if you can do that. I think if you got a shorter belt and you could technially route the belt yourself. Also go to a junk yard get a junk compressor if you don't want to go the belt route.

You should be able to install another belt. Just go to the parts store and ask for the belt w/o AC. The only problem that you might have would be obstruction of the copressor with the belt routing , but I really don't think that would be an issue.

Re: Belt to bypass A/C pump?

If you run a measuring tape (or a string) around all pulleys except the A/C, you should be able to match-up a shorter belt which bypasses the A/C compressor.

I did this, and it worked great. Unfortunately for me, it took me way too long to get this done before the car sat for a few years. Now it looks like I have to sell it.

For '86 Delta88s at least, all had A/C, so I could not just look-up a part number for a shorter belt.

I hope that helps.
