Qualitative build!! Very nice. You've done awesome for your first kit. For you next one, how about puttying the seats so there isn't the seam, and painting the black trim around the windows? The later I know is kinda hard if you're new, but those are the only two things I see that could improve; the rest is stellar! The paintwork is great and that's where most people have the most trouble. Great work!

nice clean build, I agree with will. You should paint the window surrounds and fix the seats on the next one. The difference between a good model and a great model is the time you put into it. Just my 2 cents. love the paint!

Re: Another Civic EK - First model

Thanks for the good feedbacks!

@Willimo Thanks for the good idea for the putty for the seats... I'll try that for my next model. And for the windows trim, I already tried on a "test model" and the result was horrible. I tried with tamiya tape but the paint goes under the tape and on the rest of the car.... you can imagine the result
Maybe I put too much paint or the tape wasn't correctly place.

Re: Another Civic EK - First model

It comes with practice, man. For the trim on the car (which I would have skipped on this black car) use thin bits of tape, 1-2mm wide (I cut my strips from bigger pieces of tape) along the edge so they can follow the curves, and burnish them down really well! Then add more tape until the rest of the car is covered. I use acryl in an airbrush for this step because it's easy to clean, and I shoot some clear acryl first. Even if you are using spray cans, using clear first is probably a good idea. For the inside of the window glass, I trace the edge (frosted/clear boundary or the line they mold in) with a fine-tipped sharpie. Then, I put a large piece of tape over the entire window, covering it entirely if possible, and burnish it down like crazy on that line. Then, I carefully cut the tape with a really sharp x-acto, and remove the tape from where the black will be (not the clear part - I make this mistake EVERY time and have to redo my taping - at least I catch it early!) and then spray the black.

Another important trick here is to use several really light coats. One thick coat, even at the end of the process, is bound to muck it up.

Like I said, it comes with practice. You've sure got the ability, that's clear, and if you push yourself a little with each model, you're going to be incredible! I can't wait to see what you're gonna show us next, and don't shy away from asking questions.

Re: Another Civic EK - First model

I don't know if I'll try the windows trim on my next model that I'm doing right now ( tamiya lancer evo 6 ) I don't want to screw the nice paint ( metallic blue )!!

Thanks for the good comments!
