Unhappy DRL headlights: please help!!!

I just got my used sunfire, 1997 with 2.2L engine. I 'm having two problems with my headlights:
1) it always on dim. I am not sure if this is normal. Switch is ON or OFF position it has no effect, headlights always dim, cluster lights and parking lights work with the swicth in the ON position.
2) High beam doesn't stay, when I released my finger the high beam goes back to low beam and its dim. Any help would gladly appreciated.

Jesse

Have you tried replacing bulbs as when one high light is out both will not work due to way they are connected and low beams will work.

For high beam/ low beam do you have to pull the lever up towards you or push down away? Could just be a simple difference from previous vehicles that you have owned? I don't believe the lever is spring loaded like older cars. Try pushing the lever down for high beam. Just a thought.

Re: DRL headlights: please help!!!

Me and my brother just checked on the high beam, both lights on high beam works. Also, both low beam works. I did tried pushing the switch forward but it wouldn't. The manual shows that to turn ON the high beam should be pulled towards the driver.

If the lights are really dim then you might have a short. This is very common on these cars. If you remove the Radiator cover and the headlights you will see the wiring running along top of the rebar. I found the short was a broken wire at the Black shrink wrap joint where one wire splits into two. You will have to remove the wire loom and tape to get at it.
