1g rods....

Ok, so with my possible local DSM I have been planning the mods to it. I'm shooting for as deep into the 11's as I could on a SBR 60 trim, 60-1, or possibly some bb turbo around that size. Well, I am thinking about stroking it, but being the cheap ass that I am, I was wondering how much shit the 1g rods can take? If they will hold up to the bigger turbo, I might just reuse them, but if I am going to have to worry about one of them going out of the side of the block, forget about it. Woudl you guys trust them at 400 hp? 450 hp? 500 hp? 550?

Re: 1g rods....

I am sure you will get alot of regurgitated answers on this one by people who read it somewhere so I won't do that. Search for yourself, but my friend who builds serious race cars looked at mine, and he is of the opinion that they will hold 500 easy. They look as thick as a small block chevy to me, so I am taking them as far as I can. .

Machine Ballanced 1g rods with ARP fastiners are a great 500hp combo..

Re: 1g rods....

If you're going cheap trying getting the rods/crank cryo treated. It was about $200 for rod, pistons, and crank. There is a ton of info on 300below.com. That' where my brother sent his stuff, they were really cool cause his pitons got fucked i the mail (UPS sucks) and they have a $75 minimum ordr and the pistons are like $7 a piece so they did it for free!!! Now thats customer service.

Re: 1g rods....

Sweet. So you guys would be worried about pushing them to 500 hp? I should have the car sometime next week so I am going to start buying parts whenever I get a good deal. On of my other friends Shawn has a 4g63t, but he lost it. So, if he finds it, I will buy it from him and get to work. I'm thinking I am going to get a hold of a stock tranny, t case, and drive shaft, build the bottom end with a 4g64 crank, 1g rods, and stroker pistons and keep the head stock until after the bolt ons are done. Once the DSM link, exhaust, intake, and fuel mods are done, the head will be built, then it will get the fun stuff. I'm thinking a SBR 60 or 60-1 with some nitrous and maybe some of that methanol/water injection. Its going to be a beast, but I dont know how much of one. Pics coming soon!
