How to UNinstall a lift kit - 97 Runner

Hey folks

I recently purchased a 97 Toyota 4Runner for my wife
Looks like the previous owner had installed an off-road lift kit that raised it up about 2.5-3"

What parts do I need to "uninstall" a lift kit?
Is it just the shocks and struts - do I need to replace the springs too?

Or is it simply spacers added to increse the spring height and shocks to increase the stiffness? It looks like factory springs (black) but the shocks have been changed (yellow), but I'm new to the Sport Ute scene

Thanks in Advance

Well from your post it's pretty vague. Black coils and yellow shock could be stock coils and bilstein shocks which are yellow with a blue rubber sleeve, I believe came stock on the newer toyotas. What size are the tires on this 4runner? If you get what the stock size is and try to cross reference to the ones you have on it now. That should help you get a good idea of the amount of lift on it. But myself personally I wouldn't remove it if it's only 2.5 to 3 inches. I'm sure though bein a grociery getter for the wife it's to high up. Or you could just try to find some runnin boards if it doesn't have any already, and that would help gettin in and out. Not sure what else to say so good luck and I hope this helps in some way shape or form.

Re: How to UNinstall a lift kit - 97 Runner

Hey Wil...thanks for the input.
I'm pretty sure it is stock coils with some off-road shocks - as the ride quality is a lot stiffer than how I would expect. Looking closer (and in daylight) I do see a silver (or aluminum) coloured spacer atop the coil spring.

My wife is about 2 and a half months pregnant and is already starting to feel every notch in the road - the 2-3 inch drop will help a lot, and switching over to some KYB or even OEM shocks will soften the ride a bit.

the Runner already has the runningboards and tires are factory size.

Those might be only spacers added in for the extra height. You could probably go and rent a spring compressor for your local auto store or rental shop. Jack that sucker up on some jack stands, compress the coil, then you will probably have to loosen the shocks in the front to get the spacer out. Not sure what else to say. Congats on the little one on the way.

BECAREFUL working with those spings!!!!

Pull the correct ride height for the front end and adjust the torsion bar adjustments. Grease those bolts before turning them WD-40. I broke both of mine, but my truck spent its early years out on teh coast here in Oregon "rust capital USA).
