Exclamation Please Help, i love this car!

hey everyone, my brother has a 1989 camaro iroc-z 5.7L with 117,000 miles on it, im 17 and hopefully im going to get this car in May if i work hard in school, i love this car. it has always ran just fine, but recently it started acting up, now it takes a while to start, it starts with the first turn of the ignition usualy but not always you might have to hold it a while, once it starts it does not sound the best, it also has an exhaust leak which will be fixed soon. but when you give it a little throttle it hesitates and putts a little, i took a ride in it a couple of days ago, when my brother would press on the gas, it hesitated a lot and took a while to speed up. when he gave it full throttle it speed up very slowly and didnt not shift to second til high rpms maybe because it was pined, we then stoped to go to the store, the car sat for 15 minutes, it started fine, and when he took off it picked up just fine, and ran way better than just 15 minutes ago, i dont think it was just because it was cold at all. does anyone think it can be something to deal with the o2 censor? maybe the exhaust leak is effecting it more than i think? please help i will give more information about anything if anyone needs to know more, there is much more to this car and a lot more information, please ask questions and i will give you all that i can to answer them, Thank you.
Jason

I Have A 67 Caamro And I Had Some Problems Like That Too. Um.. Check The Timing, Fuel Lines, Replace Distibutor Rotors And Points, And Fix Exhaust Leak. This Should Help But Im Not Sure

Re: Please Help, i love this car!

First, no points on a 1976+ GM, they started using the HEI system in 75.

Start with a good tune up, plugs, wires, rotor, cap, timing set, O2 sensor.
If that doesn't clear it up, try replacing the coolant temp sensor ($7 at auto zone) located at the front of the intake manifold. Also, if you can get a "test pipe" to replace the cat with, do that and see if that makes a difference.

Check for trouble codes...If the comp. knows what the problem is, then you will too! If not, then I would agree that the right place to start would be a tune up.
