Yarn, PVC, and a local = :D
Ok guys, I need a DSM. You want to see what I have been doing with my time? A few weeks ago I learned how to knit. Its kinda relaxing... it keeps my hands busy and mind off of dumbass girls and school. I started a scarf, its wide as hell. Its 8" wide and is about two feet long right now. It takes for ever and a half, I have about 7-9 hours into it now so only about 15-20 until I am done
. Anyway, heres a picture. Also, my friend and I were talking last weekend at a show choir competition (we kicked ass BTW, grand champions bitches!) and we decided we needed to make a potato gun. Well, a trip to fleet, home depot, walmart, and gander mountain later, we have one bad ass potato gun Its barrel is 2" PVC about 4ft long with a two size PVC combustion chamber. The main part is 4" a little over 2 ft long and since they dont make 4" to 2" couplers we needed to use a 4" to 3" and a 3" to 2". The smallest they would cut of the 3" (to join the two couplers) is 6" long, so we just got a little bigger combustion chamber. Well, all in all its almost 8 ft tall and hopefully capable of wicked long and powerful shots. My friends potato gun has a 14" long and 3" diameter combustion chamber for about 98 cubic inches, mine is about 370 cubic inches! It will get a nice black/green duct tape reinforcing paint job tonight and we are going to go blast the bitch off tomorrow. I hope it works well and no one gets hurt doing it! Ok, now the "local" part of the title. I saw my friend at McDonalds today while I was working. He was with his friend, a local DSMer. He had a 400whp AWD but he blew it up. He said its ready, but he needs to get his stand alone back (hes running haltech or whatever its called). Anyway, hes got a coupel 1g's, one of which he will sell me. He wants to keep his 91, but he'll sell me the 92 awd shell. I dont know what color it is, but its got decent exterior, a 4 bolt rear, performance suspension (cant remember brands or drop, but its lowered), and everything else it needs to roll (brakes and wheels). It doesnt have an engine, tranny, tcase or driveshaft however. What should I pay for it? I am willing to pay a little extra since I wont have to go anywhere to get it. Also, that guy (Matt) has extra engines and parts as well does Shawn. I'm excited guys, I'm determined to have at least a 12 sec DSM for our meet! I'll get pictures of it as soon as I can. |

Re: Yarn, PVC, and a local = :D
So what do you use for fuel in that potato gun?
I made one awhile back and used hairspray. It got boring and so I made a different one. I rigged up an acetylene and oxygen tank, you know, one of them bernz-o-matic torch kits. I'll have to get a few pictures of it sometime.

Re: Yarn, PVC, and a local = :D
Be careful scottsee, you may have a scarf on your doorstep in a couple weeks
. Yeah, we are using hairspray. Did the PVC hold together with using the acetylene? I am a little worried about this one blowing up in our faces. Pictures would be awesome.Any idea what to offer for the car? I was thinking like $500. Sound reasonable? What about a blown 4g63t? $250? |

Re: Yarn, PVC, and a local = :D
Why would I fuck around with a 7 bolt?
![]() I dont know actually, I never checked. As a matter of fact, not even sure its blown. Lets assume its not running, but that it didnt throw a rod. Just low compression high milage. But I would only get a 6 bolt, no sense f-ing with a bolt if I need to get an engine anyway. |

Re: Yarn, PVC, and a local = :D
Yea if its a 6 bolt and not a thrown rod around 250-300 find out details tho and its a thrown rod if its threw the block dont even worrie about it u will have to get a new block so no point. also if its threw to oil pan take the oil pan off and check all the barrins and make sure everything else still looks good and intact.

Re: Yarn, PVC, and a local = :D
I love potato guns... We made one once and mounted it on a go-cart and it was like a tank... Probably the greatest thing we ever did.
![]() Oh yeah, my one buddy made one that was hooked to a propane tank and he used an old mower engine to get a powerful enough spark to ignite it good... Wow, that thing was amazing... He set it up for a project at school and had 5 sheets of drywall setup about 25-30 feet away from it and it shot through them all and went about another 50 feet. So if you ever wanna make a really destructive one, use that method. lol

those are the guns my friend and I built. We have one that uses a lighter from a grill we ripped off a grill at the curb. then uses the propane tank. It's awesome

^yep yep, we always used hairspray. Speaking of juvenile pranks, have you tried dry ice in a 2liter bottle with a little water (put the cap on and run like hell)? It will seriously blow shit up!! Dry ice>mailboxes

Re: Yarn, PVC, and a local = :D
Thats a good idea loeman! I got the grill starter today, hopefully on Tuesday or Wednesday we'll got shoot the bitch off.Anyway, I went to check out that car today. No pictures because I forgot my camera. Its a a red 92 that used to be manual. Heres what I noticed: The Good The body was great. There was no rust, dents, or even any door dings that I could see, but one part where paint was cracked on bumper. The interior was really good. No rips or tears in the seats, everything was still in there and in the stock color, but part of the dash was pulled up. It has a sunroof which suprised the hell out of me, I didnt think any 1g's came with sunroofs. Even if some did, this one was customed in there. Its a big ass sunroof. I dont think it opens at all, and it doesnt leak. We got like 8-9 inches of snow on friday and today it was melting, no water got inside. The rims are some chrome 16's with pretty good tires, aggressive tread but only about half the life left. It has AGX's with apex springs, lowered roughly 1.5 inches. Has all of the brake system. Comes with the 4 bolt rear and EPROM ecu. The Not So Good The tint turned blue. Basically nothing in the engine bay. No engine, radiator, tranny, t case, or drive shaft. The wiring harness needs replaceing. He might not be able to sell it, he still owes money on it, hes trying to get all his loans consolidated and if he can, he'll sell it to me. If not, he still owes enough on the car that it would cost me too much to buy it. All in all, he wants $800 for it. I think it sounds fair, what do you guys think? He'll get back to me as soon as he knows what the bank is doing and I may have a DSM to wrench on as early as wednesday! |

Re: Yarn, PVC, and a local = :D
Hairspray is good for the potato gun but, you could also try some lighter fluid. That is what I have used in the past and it works out pretty well (potato gun was made of steel btw). We would shoot old tenis balls though. It was kinda cool because they would catch fire as they launched. So, potato gun + lighter fluid + tenis balls = flaming balls moving at a good 300+fps
