Red face 98 GL radio dead after new battery

Hello,

We just bought a 98 Windstar GL with 108k. Previous owner bought it new and has all scheduled maintenance. But he said that when the replaced the battery last year, the radio would never come on again. He was told by someone that a dealer would have to "reset" it. He chose not to do that and therefore, the radio doesn't work. It worked fine until they changed the battery. Anyone ever heard of this problem? I'd love to know how to fix it. Thanks,
Shannon

Re: 98 GL radio dead after new battery

I have not heard of that problem.
It is normal for the radio to lose all of the memory data (clock, and preset stations) when the battery is disconnected.

My '96 lists the radio as being on fuse #12, along with the remote headphone module, GEM, auxiliary Warning Module, Anti-Theft Controller, Remote / Keyless entry module.
(I listed these optional items...which I don't have....as if they are working.....fuse is good)

Also, for Radio CD player, Fuse #13

If you have the factory installed radio amplifier (inside dash, behind radio) or the factory installed sub-woofer (in the back cargo area....in the side plastic trim panel) then the amplifier and subwoofer is on fuse #8

If you have an owner's manual, check for your '98.
