you ever think the zx2/escort will return?

so what does everybody think when it comes to if ford should bring back the zx2? to put it into perspective, the focus kinda took over the zetec motor. but does anyone seriously consider that rolling bubble sporty? the zx2 had it all decent power, mpg, and good looks. it's kinda like chevy and thier cavilier, both the zx2 and cavilier were due for a face lift. since the styling hasnt changed much in the last 7 years of its production. but they didnt do anything about it. they shoulda took the hint from dodge's srt 4. but if you were to compare the srt4, cobalt, and focus. the focus is dead last in that department. but if ford kept the zx2 and say added more power, and maybe a looks package, im sure the zx2 could run with those cars sepecially since the car is smaller then all 3 of them.

Re: you ever think the zx2/escort will return?

Ford had a 200HP SVT prototype in 1998, and a 230HP Roush Supercharged demo in 1999/2000.

But they sank money in the Focus anyway.

If anything the Zx2 will return as a Focus and the Escort wont return for decades(if at all) the Focus is being cut in a few years.

Look at a 93-96 Escort then a 97-00...they are a big change.

The ZX2 was more of a 2door Escort/Contour hybrid.

The Zetec is a dead motor.

Maybe because its underpowered by about 50-80hp.

Re: you ever think the zx2/escort will return?

it would still be nice to have ford give us a nice entry level sporty looking car.

but if you also look at it from a cosmetic point of view the focus just doesnt have it. and probibly the main reasons the focus is soo under powered is cuz of the 3 its the only naturally asperated engine. the ss is supercharged, and the srt has the parts bin turbo.

Re: you ever think the zx2/escort will return?

the focus wasn't made with performance in mind, thats why its down right retarded to compare them with the SRT-4 and the Cobalt SS

compare a base neon, a base cavalier, and a base focus...

btw, the srt-4 isn't just a neon with a turbo.. if you're talkin about the motor.. the motors built from the factory unlike the n/a 2.4L

Re: you ever think the zx2/escort will return?

yea but the countor donst look half as good as a zx2. if they released a go-fast ZX2 I would buy it in a minute, but until then my next car will be a cobalt or eclipse.

i just dont get why ford is sticking to the n/a platform. why arent they going for moderate power through a supercharger or turbo? the reason i was comparing them in the high end model is because.... short of a saleen.... the focus doesnt have a performance level. but i think if it were base v. base the cobalt has the 2.4 base, and the neon runs a 2.0 but i dont even like to call that a sporty look... its a 4 door. but the cobalt still takes it.

ford didn't gfeel the need to make a high power focus (they did, the RS, 220hp i think?.. turbocharged 4 cylinder) only made in europe but there are a few here in the US.

and what's wrong with n/a? You don't need f/i to make power.

Re: you ever think the zx2/escort will return?

because the 230hp zx2 or eve 200hp zx2 would be in the high to mid 14's...thats to close to the Mustang GT for Fords liking (almost as quick, better handeling, about 6k less = Ford not making)

thats true since there are some 4 bangers that put out real power. i know very little about the turbofocus, pretty much all i know is there is one, no rea details.

do any of you know what ford did to make the 200 and 230 hp escorts? its something ild like to know to see if i can build mine atleast close to that.

Corporate average fuel economy. A n/a 200 hp motor is more fuel efficient than a s/c or turbo 200 hp motor, comparably tuned. You need to sell a lot of economy cars to make up for the blown 5.4 and V10 gas hogs ford produces.
The escort probably won't come back. The only time you see manufacturers recycling nameplates is when there's a nostalgic factor and they know people will buy that new GTO or whatever because they had one or always wanted one when they were younger.
