Replacing Driver Air Bag & Wheel Controls

Hello my Fellow Aurora Drivers;

Has anyone had to replace the Driver's airbag unit along with the wheel controls for the air and radio.

The wheel controls as you are aware are covered with a label. These labels wear out or crack and peel over time. Well, I got two units on Ebay cheap,
the wheel control as well as the whole unit including the air bag.

Has anyone changed out the unit. I know from reading the manuls, there are two screws in the left anf right side of the wheel column. Plus you must disconnect the fuse and battery.

Just wanted to talk with anyone that has changed this unit out, about any problems of problems in changing this.

Thanks
Al Galaviz

Re: Replacing Driver Air Bag & Wheel Controls

I replaced my air-bag module on the steering wheel, because the paint had wore off of the controls on the right side. I have a '97 set of manuals, but they don't have step-by-step instructions. For replacing the module. It just have a photo of it broken down into its parts. The air-bag and controls comes off as 1unit. If the car has been running. Wait 10minutes then disconnet the battery. You disable the Sir (supplemental Inflatable restraint)system by removing the Air bag fuse from the I/P fuse box(top left). (2) Under I/P, remove the sound insulator on the right and left side. And disconnect the yellow Sir connectors.The one on the R. is locked with a piece inserted from the top. And the one on the L. is locked in place with a piece inserted from the side. (3) On the opposite side of the steerring wheel, remove the screw covers and remove the screws. (4) Then Lift the module up enough so you can disconnect the wires. The horn connection is a small round, about 3/4 long piece. that fits into its connection like a bulb. You push it in and rotate it. It is suppose to lock in place. When I was installing mine, it wouldn't lock. So I pushed it in, and left it at that. My horn works fine. I did't replace the controls on the side of the module, I replaced the whole unit. So I have an extra air-bag. If I missed anything, you guys help me out.
