they over a high flow Toga Oil pump. the OEM unit can handle more than enough for every application i have ever seen. actually most places just replace the stock unit with a new one...even with 1000+hp Z's.

here is the deal , i had my heads ported shaved and polished to be able to fit in the bigger cams and oversized valves, there is more surface area to cover hence oil pressure goes down, and sometimes it goes down to almost 0 as the stock gauge reads it ........ im told that can be dangerous and disasterous if i dont take care of it. for now im not driving the car, my mechanic said i need to change the oil pump and put one in that can hold atleast 60 psi. I dont understand how change a stock for stock will imporove my oil pressure. what else could be the problem with my low-no oil pressure at idle????
any help greatly appreciated |

if you had 0 oil pressure, your car wouldnt be running. it is common with the Z32's for the oil pressure gauge to stop working. mine never worked properly. good luck, you shouldnt need a new oil pump. put in an aftermarket oil pressure gauge if your not sure but i am almost positive the gauge isnt working.

Re: Help!!!! Oil Pump
i would hook up a manual oil gauge alot more accurate than the 'ol electrical gauge but yah i agree witgh k3 if you had 0 oil pressure than your engine would be toast not running theres alot of good aftermarkets for it or what you coulddo is put a piece of black tape over the gauge so you dont see it saying 0 maybe that will make you feel better about it ..
lol i see cars like that all th time coming into the shop people put a piece of tape over check engine lights or airbag lights , whatever lights that are lit up that could indcate a problem its hillarious..

the needle isn't always on 0. its almost touching 0 at idle only. when i rev up or when i start driving it gradually increases and goes up to about 60psi on the highway.... i know that the car wouldn't be running and i would fry everything but im thinking that if i did increase the surface area the pressure would drop some right? thanks for the help

just to figure somethings out: what can be the causes of low oil pressure?.... and how would i know if my oil pump isn't working properly and if i need to change it...... from what you guys are saying i think this mechanic is just tring to milk me for a job. but im a bit confused my stock gauge is working properly, but in idle it dips too low and soo this guy is telling me that i need a more powerful pump...........dammit im so frustrated i just want my frickin car back.......

Re: Help!!!! Oil Pump
I don't know who fed you the line about the bigger cams lowering the oil pressure but it's bullshit. Look at the biggest damn cam you've ever seen and look at a stock cam. Even with the increased lift and longer duration the total surface of the cam lobe is going to be maybe half an inch bigger than stock. Larger valves don't matter because the larger valve heads aren't part of the lubrication system. Having a shaved, ported and polished head wouldn't matter either because none of that applies to the oil system. You MIGHT get lower oil pressure readings if you ported and polished all of the oil passages, MAYBE, by a little bit. I can't possibly see how any of that would be the issue.
And just because the oil pressure gauge seems work on the throttle doesn't mean it's working properly all the time. The manual gauge you have should give you a better indication of what is going on and it's very likely it's just a guage issue. If you had near zero oil pressure even at idle you would be hearing a huge clattering from the valve training because the hydraulic lifters wouldn't be operating correctly.

Re: Help!!!! Oil Pump
well if you have a manual gauge get that out and hook it up and i bet that its going to look normal those stock electronic gauges mess up so often you cant trust them....
