Angry Gas Gauge issues

The gas gauge in my blazer is really starting to annoy me........ They only way I can guess how much gas I have left is by using setting my trip meter and filling up when it gets to a certain number.

Is there anyway to fix my gas gauge...... Its basically close to empty when it reads it at 3/4 of a tank. When I hit the gas sometimes when its at around 3/4 of a tank it sometimes will go all the way to empty. Now I know that its normal for the gauge to move like that but this seems extreme.

Is there any low cost solutions to fix this?

Re: Gas Gauge issues

Mine does the same thing in my 2001 blazer. I'm thinking its the sending unit. It will say i have a full tank then go down to a half tank.

Try the sending unit for the fuel system.

Re: Gas Gauge issues

I had the same problem and recently replaced the sending unit. It now registers right but still moves a little bit back and forth. If you have your mileage for city and highway figured out I wouldnt waste the time dropping the tank and the $130 to replace the sending unit.

Re: Gas Gauge issues

My sending unit has been giving me problems for about three months. It works ok from full to about half, and then the gods only know what the tank level is...
I have looked into replacing it, but the cost and headaches involved versus the need to excercise my brain and figure out how many more miles I can go doesn't justify my dropping the tank and replacing the sending unit and pump. Because, what is the purpose of just replacing one if the other will go soon anyway???
I figure when I start seeing problems with the fuel pressure I will drop the tank and replace both.
