How many miles on the truck? Back around that model year, they were bad about having the light to come on at different intervals (50,000, 75,000, 100,000, etc) to get you to take it to the dealer so they could reset the light and charge a fee for it. I had an 88 that did this. I finally had one mechanic tell me not to worry about it. I put a piece of black tape over the light. The light went off at 75,000 miles and came back on again at 100,000 miles.
