police fraud

Tonight at about 2 in the morning me and my friends were bored so we decided to jut go cruise around and get away from our dorms. Were just cruising down a main road in Daytona, Fl and one of my friends tells me there is a cop thats about to pull out behind me but i was doing nothing wrong as i had cruise on at 3 under the speed limit, then all the sudden he pulls behind me an turns on his light i pull over and he is very rude and makes me role down all my windows which i understand since it was 2 in the morning. Then he tells m that i ran 2 red lights (one of which he wasnt even behind me when i passed through the light). Then he asks me where i was going and i told him back to school and he asked me what i wasdoing so i toldhim i was wqas just cruising around but he wouldnt take that for an answer. After this he procedes to check my entire carjust trying to find something wrong, he even measured my tint which is like 70%. After this he writes me a ticket and tell me that if i just pay it he will only charge me for one light but if i go to court he will make sure i pay the full penalty and am charged for both lights. (which seems a lot like blackmail to me, especially since its the end of the month and he needs to meet his quota) I just need some advice on what to do because i am not paying for an infraction that i didnot commit. I have heard horror stories of this happening befor but now i myself ave lost all respect for cops. I even have 3 witnesses to prove that i didnt run a light.
Thanks for your help.

Re: police fraud

go to court, he doesn't even have the authority to drop one of the charges if you just pay it.

Re: police fraud

Bring your friends in as witnesses. Make sure you all remember where he pulled out from. And request the lightes that he witnessed you drive through. Be sure to plead not guilty then request a meeting with the DA or one of the assistants and tell them the facts. I"m sure if they think the cop was caught in a lie, they'll recommend the case be dropped. If not, your friends should be enough for the judge to see the truth.

Re: police fraud

I doubt anyone in the car will serve (in the courts eyes) as a reliable witness.

Re: police fraud

You wanna talk about police fraud, I'll tell ya a story I lived that will make your skin crawl, I got pulled over of wreckless driving, the cop bullshits his way thourgh a soberity test and makes me seem like I was drunk, then when he takes me to jail he puts an alcohol pad in my mouth, you know the kind that they use before an injection, and makes me blow in a breathalizer machine while the pad is still in my mouth, I spend the night in jail for a DUI that I was sober on, and now I have to go to court on march 2nd and lie to them and tell them I haven't had a chance to talk to a lawyer simply because I don't have the money to pay him. I wanna hire a hitman for this piece of shit because he's been harassing me every since he's gotten that DUI outta me. I want this cop dead as a 16 penny nail. I hate the police dept. around here (read my last post in "This Sucks" in the relationship forum) if you read that post, you'll understand why I've got a harassment suite againt the shitbox that I live in.

Re: police fraud

threatening to kill a police officer on a public forum is generally not a good idea

Also, you have in the past admitted as getting legitimately caught DUI.

Re: police fraud

that was in the past and that was thrown out because the cop forgot to bring in any evidence, on top of that that DUI was in another town. Ont op of that I have three witnesses at the house I had JUST LEFT about 200 yards back from my DUI, I was at that house for an hour or a little more, and if your drunk enough to blow .22 ANYONE should be able to tell if you're drunk in less than five minutes. oh yeah BTW if you are questioning the usefulness of these witnesses, they are a homeboy and his parents. now how do you get that drunk in 200 yards?

Re: police fraud

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't all police cars have cameras in them nowadays? They should be able to review the footage, which should prove your story

What was the alcohol pad for? and why did you keep it in your mouth? Was he forcing your mouth shut? Obviously your friends story is going to back yours. Thats why they wouldnt be reliable witnesses.

I have to call BS on this one. A breatha lizer does not measure the level in the breath in your mouth, the reason they make you blow so long is to get the air from deep in the lungs. Your story has been around a long time, so long in fact in our state the acadamy trains people on the breath test and make them try all these urban legends to show them that they do not work. And by the way when you get arrested you have the ption of breath or blood test, if the breath didn't turn out the way you liked, you could have requested a blood test, and they do that at the hospital.

Re: police fraud

There are some bad cops out there, but there is not one department that has a quota. In fact if you know any cops personally, you will find they don't really like giving out piddly traffic violations simply because there is too much paperwork involved. The cop probably pulled you over and gave you a ticket because they were most likely having drug problems in that area and are trying to discourage it. In their eyes, most people don't go for a drive at 2 a.m. just for the fun of it, they figure they are looking for something. Right or wrong, they are in the end usually trying to keep the streets clean and safe. I don't care much for alot of cops, but I have alot that are family. I know not all cops are straight, but believe me, they get nothing extra for trafffic tickets. As for him threatening to ticket you more tickets, he can give you the others whenever he wants, it's not likely though. If you tried to fight the ticket, for one you would lose, for another the judge in most cases wouldn't allow it, and he would have to do it in front of the judge, coase if you fought it the cop would have to appear in court too. Don't get down too hard on cops though, sure there are some crappy ones, but do you have any idea how often they face down a gun barrel, or face a knife, or strung out people that are unpredictable? And they do this to uphold the laws that are meant to keep all people safe, including you. Try to keep an open mind, and before you bad mouth, have the right facts before accusing, such as the quota for tickets. It just doesn't exist. They have alot more important things to worry about. Remember, if you get puled over for a small infraction, they are usually not interested in that but are checking for something bigger, drugs, etc.

Anyone know if rubbing alcohol would really register on a breathalizer? Maybe tell the judge "Do you realize you're talking to THE stoned_pimp420?"

Re: police fraud

It will only register if you drink it. The test reads the saturation of the air deep in your lungs, that is why they have you blow hard for so long. But If you drink rubbing alcohol, you would be pretty sick if you drank enough to register, that has isopropyl alcohol and can be toxic to drink.
