Re: question about tire size??

the 305 is the section width of the tire in millimeters. The 45 is the Aspect ratio. The Profile of the sidewall is 45% of the section width.
305x.45 =137.25 mm
305x.40=122 mm The diffrence is .60 inches so the overall wheel diameter would decrease by 1.2". You would have to play with the section width and aspect ratio but you can't reduce by 1/4" with the 305.

so if i go to a 305-40-22 instead of a 305-45-22 i will drop the tire .6 on each side making the tire 1.2 inches shorter overall?? if that is the case i will just do that, i just need to go a little bit shorter becasue right now the tires in the front touch the inside of the fender on big bumps and shave the tire a bit. thanks for the help

Re: question about tire size??

That's right, I am just assuming they make a 305/40 22. Good luck.

kumho, 196 each shipped
hankook, 242 each shipped
wanli, 175 each shipped

they all have A rating on temperature and traction and seem to be about 420 treadwear rating. would like some opinions on what you guys would buy. thanks

Re: question about tire size??

The higher the treadwear number the longer the tire tread will last but the tread is harder. Are all the tires the same speed rating? Are these all independent companies or a subdivision of a company like Goodyear. If you can get the info the sidewall and tread construction are listed on the sidewall. The number and material of plies and belts will be listed. Maybe hard to find out if buying online but ask anyways. I would look at the tread design. Nubby wide channels or smooth narrow channels based on your driving conditions. There seems to be a big difference in price there must be a differenc,e try to find the info I listed above.
