Re: sunbird MAF sensor location

is it possible that my car doesnt have a MAF sensor because its a 93 3.1 , ive read that it has a MAP sensor because of speed density? i think that has something to do with the air flow being controlled by the intake manifold .... if that makes any kind of sense and if my car does have MAP where is it located

Re: sunbird MAF sensor location

The book I have does not show a MAF sensor. The MAP sensor is located on the passenger side of the vehicle on the firewall.

Re: sunbird MAF sensor location

Not necessarily! The map sensor is often mounted on the firewall or on a bracket on the back of the engine. They are not usually mounted directly on the manifold especially on the 3.1.

Re: sunbird MAF sensor location

after looking on other sites i figured out that the MAP sensor is mounted to the rear of the motor on the passenger side.... could that be causing my rpms to surge between 750 and 1500 when stopping and coasting around 10km/h...thanks for the help

Re: sunbird MAF sensor location

Yes it can! You can usually replace it within just a few minutes. Used ones are available at some wrecking yards for a reasonable cost.
