Fuel filter
Hi, I have an 87 Olds Cutlass supreme.
My question is where is the fuel filter on this car? The reason I ask, is while I was replacing the brake lines, I noticed that there was 2 black rubber hoses "zip tied" to the brake line. Once I replaced the brake line I traced these 2 hoses to the gas tank and to the engine. Is this right?! Or did some 1/2 bit mechanic take a short cut when replacing the fuel line? The car used to belong to my wifes grandmother, and the mechanic she used I did not trust one bit. Can anyone tell me if this sounds fishy to you? Thanks. Hearts88 |

Re: Fuel filter
The fuel filter should either be behind the tank or along the frame rail. You should easily find it because it is about 5 inches long and 3 inches in diameter. Based on your description this sounds a little fishy to me.

Re: Fuel filter
Is this a rear wheel drive Cutlass? If so there is a fuel filter in the carb inlet and a sock in the tank, which engine?

Re: Fuel filter
Well, I know what the fuel filter usually looks like on vehicles... like GTP dad said, along the frame rail. However the lines are rubber from front to back, no filter there.
Its an 87 Cutlass... so yes it is rear wheel drive. It has the 3.8L engine. I was thinking that maybe the filter was near the Carb. I thought I would ask, 'cos the Rubber lines seems strange. Hearts88 |
