Why does a Nissan dealership have hardly any Nissans? :(

Hey all,

After I got off work today, I began my quest to find my own 240sx... First stop was the Nissan dealership...

I park, walk around, don't see any (do see a kinda nice 200sx tho), and head inside...

I see some guy with a tie... manager or something, ask if there are any 240sx's he says he thinks they just got one in on trade in... he was wrong... no 240sx's

I talk to some other guy he introduced me to.. manager says "This is Chris, he is looking for a 200sx..."

I'm like "No, 240sx"

The guy he introduces me to says "300zx?"

Stupid fucking people... Then the guy takes me over to the 300zx (non turbo automatic for 20k ) I said insurance would be too high on the 300zx and its too expensive... He shows me the 200sx, and tries to push me to buy that... I thought it might be a decent car (sr20 inside )... but its FWD

We go in back... big surprise... no 240sx's here either... a bunch of mustangs, camaros, old maximas, celicas, etc...

He took my name and number in case they get one in... I'm holding my breath for the call...

Guess I'll check the Escondido dealership next... maybe there will be some guys there who know their cars *sighs*

But see, this is a good thing!!!

Everyone wants the car b/c it RULES!!! So it's good for them that they don't want to part with theirs. Now you have to wait until someone has to, and then it's good for you!

Did you try autotrader.com or cars.com? Nissan is unlikely to have a 240sx, because it's not a new car and is more likely to have been traded in somewhere, and auctioned off. The only used vehicles a name-brand dealer has on the lot are the ones from trade-ins done for new Nissans or other cars off their lots.

I wouldn't expect the salesmen to know anything about the cars on the lot, either. I've had idiot salesmen tell me all kinds of crap: G20 is the same as Sentra. Ford Aspire is a good first car. I've had salesmen who thought Infiniti was Ford's lux division. I met a salesman who had maybe 8 cars on the lot and hadn't bothered to drive any himself. Research the cars yourself, there are lots of good sites out there:

I know the only ones they have on the lot are from trade ins... I want to buy a 240 from a dealership so I can make payments... I dont have the 3k or so that I have seen the ones in the autotrader go for...

On a slightly different note... anyone know what insurance companies classify a 240sx as? Do they list it as a sports car? I hope not...

It's not really that stupid. The dealers can only sell you what they have in stock. If they don't have what you want the will try and "lead" you towards what they do have in stock

car dealers should be and :rocket: utill they  for mercy:finger:

don't get me started

about Superior Nissan near where I live! They don't even listen and/or fix my Pathfinder. I've given up on them and take it to specialty shops who fix it right the first time.

Hey I understand that. But most of the cars on Autotrade ARE from dealers. BTW, I love your avatar. Mugatu rocks!

It looks like the car is classified as a sports coupe, and insurance cost is high. Some more sites to check out:

Difficult to insure cars

Heh, It took me forever to find a pic of Mugatu on the internet... There are no Zoolander sites :P Thanks for the compliment BTW

Thanks for all the info... I'm also looking into a 200sx... but I only want it if it comes with the SR20 motor... I guess its the SE-R model that has the SR20? *shrugs* I just need something in better shape than my Z... and I gotta keep it Nissan

Rock on! Nissan rules!

To the best of my understanding, the SE-R model is the one with the SR20DE motor. Oh, how I love that engine! The 200sx is still a decent little thing. Plenty of zip.

For the 2.0 you have to go SE-R, I believe. That's going to cost significantly more to insure than just an SE, and like Tangie says the reg. 200sx is plenty zippy. The non SE-R insures as a compact, and should be fairly cheap. Both versions are rated Good by the NHTSA, and Acceptable by the IIHS.

I have been looking for a 98 240SX for a while now... They're hard to come by. I guess it's because I'm in love with the Sylvia S14. Finally I gave up my quest, and traded up my civic for a 1997 Nissan Maxima GXE. (last friday actually)

Congrats on getting the Maxima... Do you like it better than your Civic?

I saw a '93 Black 240sx in this crappy little used car dealership on my way home from work last night... It said "Value Priced" but didn't list a price. Since it was about 10pm at night, it was way dark and I couldn't see the mileage, or tell if it was a 5 spd (it looked like an automatic ) It did have a sunroof/moonroof thingy...

I'll stop by before work today and get all the details about it... Anyone know if its easy to convert an auto 240 to a manual?

I just did a search on the freshalloy.com forums... seems switching from auto to manual trans is a pretty easy and cheap conversion... im gonna call my insurance company to see the rates on a 240sx and if they arent too bad, I could be driving one real soon

I hope that junky little used car dealership doesnt want too much for that 240...
