Unhappy help! crate motor overheating!

So it started up fine, but it's heating up real quick, rising up past 220 in a matter of 5-10 minutes. I've been shutting it off because I won't let it run that hot. It's also drinking coolant like nothing I've ever seen before. I can't tell if it's burning off or what, but I definitely know it's not leaking out anywhere. The 160stat is brand new, water pump is working because I can feel the coolant in the hoses. Any ideas on what the hell is going on?

Re: help! crate motor overheating!

You most definetly have air in the system and do yourself a favor if you did not already and get a custom prom. That way your fans come on much sooner.

Re: help! crate motor overheating!

Easiest way is to jack the front end up and make the radiator neck the hightest open part of the system. Take the cap off and crank it up. Let it run til the stat opens then top it off, keep runnig it until there are no more bubbles in the coolant.

If the bubbles don't go away, i hope you didn't throw your receipt away for the motor.....

Don't you live in a cooler climate? Think the 160* may be a little bit much.

Re: help! crate motor overheating!

Oh, and the fan, take the connector off of the sending unit (between cyls 6 & 8) and ground it to see if the fan comes on. Could just be a loose sending unit? Also never use teflon on these, they are a tappered thread.

Re: help! crate motor overheating!

It was the fan, it's only coming on with the ac/heat so it's gotta be re-wired. Other than that the car is NASTY. lol
