Synthetic Oil

A couple of day's ago my Eclipse took a crap and died on me. I need reliable transportation to work so I went out and bought a 2005 spec V. I am new to nissans and I wasn't sure how it would respond to Mobil 1 synthetic. The car has just under 4000 miles on it and I don't know If I should put some more miles on it before switching to synthetic. Any suggestions?

Re: Synthetic Oil

are they 4000 hard driven miles? im not totally sure but i heard that spec piston rings are abnormally hard and take a few extra miles to seat properly. id wait until 5-7k just to be sure, but perhaps someone that knows firsthand can offer their input.

Re: Synthetic Oil

When I picked up the car all of the Radio Presets were set on oldies and classical stations, so I have a feeling that the owner was older and hopefully didn't beat on the car too much brand new. I baby my vehicles and this car will be mostly used for highway travel to work and back. I'm going to try to contact the manufacturer tomorrow to see what they think. Thanks for the input.

Re: Synthetic Oil

I would just put it in next oil change. Remember there are a lot of cars that come new with synthetic. No break in oils. The corvette, viper, all porche's(sp?), are synthetic on the show room floor.

Re: Synthetic Oil

I bought my Nissan Sentra brand new in 2001 and knew that the car was eventually going on to Synthetic motor oil. I mentioned the synthetic oil idea to my local Nissan mechanic at the dealership where I bought the car. The reply I got was to run the car until it had 10,000 miles on it to "seat in " the piston rings properly. If I used it too early it would interfer with the seating because the synthetic oil will not run off the cylinder walls like regular motor oil does. That would mean "blow by" of the compression gases in the cylinder at ignition. Once I got the 10,000 miles on it I immediately started running the synthetic oil in it. That was 5 years ago and have not looked back since. I am glad I did it and the car will be on synthetic oil the rest of its life or as long as I own it anyways

Re: Synthetic Oil

yeah 10k is longer than most cars. this is what i heard about super hard piston rings that take longer to seat, and i guess thats right.

Re: Synthetic Oil

Use Valvoline until you get to the Sythetic.
