Amp Installation Question

I am going to install a small amp to run a small 8" sub that is under my backseat. My question: When you hook up the power do you have to run a ground wire all the way to the Factory Head unit? I know that Delco used to use a floating ground and if you hook to a ground other than the head unit, it blows the Factory Radio.

No. ground it as close to your amp as possible, ground it to any pure metal. Don't let the ground cable be longer than 24 inches, else it wont be a strong ground. The power cable runs to the battery, and the remote turn on cable is what runs from the amp to your headunit... along with the rca's.

I grounded mine to one of the bolts under the back seat, nearest the door.

Its not the one that holds the jack, but the one that's not painted. I think the nut was 1/2" or so in size.

you want to make the ground as short as you can and straight to the body and make sure the wire is the atleast the same size as the power wire is. then the remote wire goes to a acc. power off the radio or remote output if it is aftermarket. rca's to deck and power straight to the battery. you can run a ground from the amp ground to the radio ground if you want, they used to recommend doing this back in the day but it is unheard of with all the new amps and radios these days.

I grounded mine behind my amp rack to the floor of the truck w/ self tapping screw.
