Engine service is ON

Hello Pals

The “engine service soon” of my Astro 96 turn on, I pull out the codes, but not sure what the problem might be

The codes are

P0172B
P0175B

And there was another one that I was not available to write it down, but according to the page

http://autorepair.about.com/cs/troubleshooting/l/bl_obd_main.htm

code
P0172B means System too Rich (Bank 1)
P0175B means System too Rich (Bank 2)

Any thoughts or advise of what this really means.

All information you will be available to provide will be highly appreciated.

Regards,

Re: Engine service is ON

How does it run/start other than the codes?

Thanks for getting interesting on this!

It starts and runs just fine and it seems not to be a problem when I’m driving, “the only problem” it’s that light “ON” of the service engine

Re: Engine service is ON

I would imagine, if it really is running rich, you will notice a drop in mileage. It may help to find out what the other code was. Since it is showing running rich in both banks I think you may be able to rule out the oxygen sensors. What could it be: stuck injectors (would have to be at least 2 on seperate banks, not likely), could be fuel pressure regulator that is stuck and not allowing excess fuel pressure to run back to the fuel tank, could be as simple as a dirty air filter or bad plugs or ignition. Could be a lot of things, but without covering the basics first can't say for sure. One thing is for sure, if it is running rich your catalytic converter will not last long.

Re: Engine service is ON

Well I think that catalytic converter will be a no cheap repair, in fact there are no cheap repairs, but I will like to avoid any problem on the road so, I will work on the other issues you mention to see what I can find

I really appreciate you help on this,

Re: Engine service is ON

unless the codes were cleared, the third code should still be stored.
I'd try to get that code. It may shead some light on the problem.
That third code might show a fault in the mass air flow sensor.
Or, you might have a leaking injector.
