Timing Belt

I have a 1994 Isuzu rodeo, I found out that it is the timing belt that has jumped. My local mechanic has told me that it will cost me 400.00, I was wondering if this was a fair cost. Thanks

Re: Timing Belt

Cost me $710 to have the mechanic do t-belt, both pulleys (bearings) hydraulic tensioner and water pump. From what I read this is considered pretty good. The parts are pretty expensive; over $400 in my case. I think I could have sourced them about $100 cheaper and done it myself, but I needed it back ASAP. I read several posts that said to be sure and replace the tensioner. It doesn't come in most of the belt kits. I had decided to do it anyway because I was at 132k. It was a good thing because mine was toast. You could push in the plunger with your thumb.

Re: Timing Belt

If you are sure that all of the above mentioned parts are swapped out, then that's a good price. I'll bet he's not including something, though...

Re: Timing Belt

Boy, that's a darn good price, but make sure he does T-belt, T-belt tensioner, and waterpump while he's in there, it's all literally right there and would be a shame not to do it all, especially if you're keeping it.

In addition to those items, I also did the idler pulley, t-belt tensioner adjuster, crankshaft & camshaft seals as I'm keeping mine til the wheels fall off, and I didn't want to have to pay labor again on something silly going out.

The total bill for mine was $950

Re: Timing Belt

I bet that $400 includes r/r of the belt alone. Mike, that $710 charge for EVERYTHING isn't bad at all. Most dont include the two wheels/pulleys, just the tensioner pusher and waterpump if you are lucky.
