Thumbs down 1993 Ignition linkage

How bad of a job is it? Loks like the only way to replace it is to romove the steering wheel? Any pointers would be appreciated...

TIA

Re: 1993 Ignition linkage

The car will not shut off. I believe the link pin broke on the bar that goes from the ignition cylinder to the electrical switch. I had to remove the electrical connector to get the motor to stop.

Thanks

Re: 1993 Ignition linkage

so your talking about the part where the key gos in if so thats your ignition switch or key and tumbler and its farly easy to replace just call up a ford dealer and give them your vin tell them you need a ignition key and tumbler keyed to your vin and they should be able to get you one then when you get the new part take the old key and put it in the old ignition and turn it to the run position and look directly under it you will see a hole in the plastic that wraps around the steering colum push a metal punchup in there and pull the ignition out then slide the new one in and that should fix ur problem hope this helps and good luck

Re: 1993 Ignition linkage

I had the same thing happen last summer. you can use car in emergency, but will have to diconnect battery each time. You have to pull whole steering column if pin came out. Doable but complex with tilt steering. Will have to seperate steering column after removal. No parts were broken on mine just retreived pin and replaced. Very labor intensive.

Re: 1993 Ignition linkage

What a nightmare!!! Six hours without a break to complete. Pin had come loose from the bar. $8.92 in parts and a migraine headache.

Thanks
