99 Factory Radio
I have a 99 GMC Suburban and I have 2 questions about the radio.
1. Many of the lights behind the display don't work. Does anyone know if this is easily replaced or are they on the circuit card? 2. Has anyone replaced the separate cd player with an iPod or other input deviced? 3. Should I chuck the whole radio and blow a wad at BestBuy for a new setup? Mostly the kids listen to their stuff, so I don't really want to go this route unless it is the best option. Thanks '99 GMC Suburban '03 Malibu |

Re: 99 Factory Radio
I just got a 98 Suburban and am in the process of replacing the factory radio with detached CD player. I would dump the cash and get an updated system that will play mp3's, etc. Rather than Best Buy, check out Crutchfield.com. You get some freebies (install kit, wiring harness, etc.) and all the tech info you need. Good luck!

Re: 99 Factory Radio
You can get an auxilliary input that allows you to use devices like that. It hooks up to the port in the back of the head unit but you may lose the ability to use the remote unit.
As for the button light repair, it's not an easy fix. The bulbs are specialty bulbs and they're actually soldered to the board. Go to www.replacementradios.com and look under the Repairs category. You're ahead to let someone who knows what they're doing work on it. |
