stay away from whater

this is the result of hydrolock.... it was a week old rebuilt engine. I got like an inch or so in my air intake after getting caught in a flash rain.

if you look close to the skirt of the first two pistons, the look like they were bit by my squierrel.
here is where the missing piece of rod came out of the engine block.

Damn that sucks, but great pictures though. Hydrolock isn't a good thing ever, especially on such a newly rebuilt engine. Do you have a CAI?

Re: stay away from whater

I actually have a short ram, but the whater was so deep that I saw it crawling on top of my hood.

(das... I know that you always give good advice, so do you have any advice for a 12:1 engine build-up? my list is so far....
JE pistons, new rings, eagle rods, rebore .20 over (new block), a mild polished head with crane #10, UDP, aluminum flywheel, stage 3 clutch, and Mopar P ECU) as far as detonation goes sould I get crane #18-22 and an adjustable cam gear or just the gear will do? I'm also planning to get the AFC II.

That's quite a shopping list, but I wouldn't bother with the crane #10 cam, barely better than stock and you will regret it with all the other mods you are doing. I would go with something like #14 or higher. If you get the cam you will need aftermarket valves also, don't forget. The adjutable cam gear is a great idea also, aem are the best for the neon, stay away from fidanza.

I have that cam on the car for some time after my timming belt tenssioner broke, I whent and put everything new, valves, seals, crane springs and retainers, crane #10 and I polished it a litle. At that time sounded like a good idea, but now I want to go with higher compression and I found that is not good for it. The conserns I have now are on how to prevent detonation. I'll go and get the #14s and the gear for now or should I go and blow my credit card and get the AFCII also? after I put the engine in the car what would be the safest way to degree the cams to start it and start tunning it? (remember I got the mopar ECU that advances the timming). Also if I go for the AFC will it have like a safe mode or something to start with? thaks.

Sometimes I think I went over my head when I order the 12:1, but I'll love to see how this thing is going to pull with that!!

are those 16s custom made? cause I could not find them on modernperformance. also to start tunning I was thinking in mixing some race fuel with the 93 octain I have on my tank. I think I saw a gas station that sells torco race fuel in galons. just to be on the safe side.?

I don't have any on hand experience with the AFC II, but they look wonderful and people that have them, absolutely love them. It sounds like a great way to monitor the engine and also help engine idle.

I just thought about something, you have a SOHC right? So a crane #14 would be good for you, as the 18 is for DOHC only.
