Grand Am P0300 Misfire error...

Hi,

My 2001 Grand Am (2.4L 4 Cylinder) ran out of gas last weekend. I put a couple of gallons into it but it still wouldn't start. When I got the fuel system apart, I found that the fuel filter was really clogged and the pump wasn't working. I figured that I had maybe given it some bad gas.

I got a new filter and pump... the car starts now but runs a little rough. I get the error code 0300 (random misfires). I checked the plugs and they are white... so I guess the cylinders are running a bit lean/hot.

I am wondering whether or not the new pump is good? Or something else is clogged? This particular motor doesn't have the port to check the fuel pressure. But then again... if that were the problem, wouldn't the computer have that code?

I put about 7 gallons of gas and a bottle of injector cleaner into the tank after I drained it before reassembling. Do you think there is bad gas still in the system somewhere? I had driven it for about 10 minutes and the problem didn't go away.

What should I do next? Change plugs? Injector cleaning?

Thanks,
Sal

My best guess..

Since you ran dry, you picked up some small particles of stuff in the tank and sent them on their merry way to the injectors. Where they may have gotten stuck.

Figure it out quick. Lean will kill a motor quick.
