7M-GE to 7M-GTE

After cracking the block to my 7M-GE I want to go turbo. I am thinking about going to the 7M-GTE. Does anyone know what all is needed. So far I am thinking the engine, ECU, wire harness, intercooler, and blow off valve. Am I missing anything and does anyone know where to get a good front clip rather than piecing things together?

Re: 7M-GE to 7M-GTE

I would recommend going with a 1jz, it's not that much of a pain and it will really help with the reliability factor of the car IMO. I will check out some places if you'd like and see where you could pick everything up for a good deal. It will also add to the performance of the car. Let me know what you want to do and I'll help with what I can.

Re: 7M-GE to 7M-GTE

Yeah, the 1JZ swap is nice. The 7M swap is easier for a US vehicle simply because of parts availability. The 1JZ isn't that bad of a swap if you use a Supra clip. If you go with a Soarer clip like I did there will be harness compatibility issues as well as motor mount issues. The big down fall to the 1JZ swap is parts availablilty. You have to order parts from Japan and wait for them to come in. You can order JDM parts through Champion Toyota in Huston.

Wait time can be a month+ for service parts. Additionally you will not find many shops that deal with the 1JZ. Aftermarket turbo kits are scarce and expensive. Anything you want will have to come from Australia or Japan. The 1JZ swap is not for the meek. You will have to do most of your own work. If you are not the best of mechanics, or this is your daily driver, then you should stick with the 7MGTE.

If you want to get a clip you can search ebay. There seems to be a good selection of 1JZs on there. Just make sure that you get a 1JZ that was pulled form a MK III Supra to save on headaches.

Re: 7M-GE to 7M-GTE

Thank you for the fast responses. Are there any known issues with the 1JZ that I should be aware of? I also saw a MKIII front clip from Options that was running about $1700, is that a fair price?
