Exclamation I need some serious advice

All right guys, this problem has been plaguing me forever!! I need someone who seriously knows there stuff. I have a 96 GSX, There is a ticking sound coming from my right front when I slow down it becomes more prominent. I jacked it up so all the wheels were off the ground and put it in neutral so the wheels were spinning. I come out and check the engine, I see the engine lurching down and back up in time with the wheels spinning... looks kind of like an engine surging . It is all wheel speed related, not RPM. I take my foot and put it against the front tire and it slows down and rather easily, and all other wheels still spin. I know this isn’t good to do, but you can’t hurt something that’s already broke. I do the same with the front right and left with it very easy to slow down both of them. I try to do the same with the rear and can’t slow down the tires to save me. What the heck…gosh… I'm 99% sure the surge is causing my ticking. I need some serious help, please someone one out there.

Re: I need some serious advice

I don't understand what your asking. Do you have a problem with your wheel or a problem with the engine?

Re: I need some serious advice

I had the Wheels balenced twice so im ruling out that, its the transmission thats connected to the engine thats causing everything to move forward and back, I think its something in there but I dont know much about trannys

Get a stethoscope and try find the clicking, put it on where you think it's coming from and you'll be able to trace exactly where it's coming from by using the stethoscop and touching things with the end. Find where it's coming from and then let us know, we'll be able to help you better.

No offence by this.
Why would the wheels be turning if it was in neutral?

Ok, you can slow your front tires because there is no LSD upfront, whereas the rear end does have an LSD. That is not your problem at all. I would get your manifold resurfaced, I've heard of them warping and having a tick because the gasket surface isnt right. Actually thats what happened to Mikes DSM.

If that were the case, the ticking would go up with RPM and not wheel speed.

Do the stethoscope thing like I said and you'll be able to pinpoint where its coming from.

Double post.

It was most likely a typo, notice how he said put it in neutral so the wheels were spinning.

Re: I need some serious advice

Isn't it a bad idea to be running a gsx with all 4 off the ground? Actually I believe it says something to the effect of dont do it in the door jam. Wheel bearing maybe? does it make more noise when you turn one way or the other? I know my car made a hella loud noise when the ball joint went out

How long can you drive on it when it goes out? I know on my winter beater the back left one is shot, it grinds like a mofo when I'm just driving around town...I have no money to fix it right now. Just hoping it holds out for another few weeks.....

Re: I need some serious advice

well...if you can't replace it any sooner than a few weeks I would suggest driving as carefully as possible because if its really bad and you hit a bump it can pop out and then you have a bigger problem

Re: I need some serious advice

Maybe it's a defect in the brake pad. The little wear indicator maybe broke off and hits something when the wheel turns. Maybe it's something else jammed inside the visible moving parts of the drive train up front, that ticks everytime the wheel turns.
