Red face 88 Regal very hard to start when cold

My daughter recently purchased an 88 regal limited 2.8L .
The car ran beautifully the day she bought it. The next morning, and every morning since, it has been terribly hard to start. While turning over, it doesn't even act like it wants to start until we repeatedly pump the accellerator pedal rapidly to the floor. It doesn't start right away but it finally takes hold and fires up. Once the car is warmed up, it runs like a champ and has no problem starting while warm. The check engine light is not on and have scanned the computer with a scan tool. (both key on-engine off and engine running tests) No trouble codes come up and all sensors are functioning within the parameters specified in shop manuals. I have replaced the spark plugs, plug wires, air and fuel filters and have run some high priced fuel injector cleaner through the fuel system to no avail.
I am out of ideas and my daughter is in tears because this is her first car and when I checked it out before she bought it, I told her it was worth every penny the guy wanted for it. Can anyone help me get back into good standing with my daughter? Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Change the fuel filter, clean the throtle body. Did the engine have a tune up reciently? Also one of the ignition coils might be bad or not giving enough spark.

Re: 88 Regal very hard to start when cold

I dont have any idea how long it had been since it's last tune up. The morning after the car was purchased is when the "hard starting" problem arose. That day is when I replaced the plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, air filter and added fuel injector cleaner to the gas tank. None of this helped to relieve the problem. How do I test the coil packs for proper spark? Neither my daughter or I can afford "Rip and Replace" suspect parts without knowing for sure the parts are bad. Can the Idle Air Control have anything to do with it?
While reading other posts, someone said the IAC had to be reset after the battery had been disconnected. I had disconnected the battery while "tilting" the engine to change the plugs but, the problem was present before that. I appreciate your suggestions. Got any more? I will be cleaning throttle body tomorrow.

don't pump the gas pedal it is fuel injected, you can press the pedal all the way to the floor while cranking, as soon as it catches let it go if that fixes it that means that it is getting flooded for some reason, have you checked the fuel pressure the pump might be on its last legs

Good Luck, 88Regal Custom

Haven't checked the fuel pressure. Would a faulty fuel pump cause it to be hard to start only when it's cold? Starts fine and runs fine after warmed up.
