CV joints/boots
I have a 97 Rodeo, 3.2L 4WD
I have been told I need to replace my CV joint/boots. I got quoted $350-$400 to have the two front ones replaced. Is this a fair price? Also would this cause my truck to shimmy when driving? |

Re: CV joints/boots
I assume this is for the two outer boots. You have 4 boots up front. Two per half-shaft 2 inners + 2 outers. Do you get any noise from the front end on turns? Clicking, clunking, rumbling would indicate the CV joints are shot, which usually results from running with torn boots. No noise & you can usually get away with a good CV joint cleaning, regrease and reboot. YES $300-400 is a very good price.

Re: CV joints/boots
I don't ever notice any clicking or grinding noise when I am driving or turning. All they really told me was I have ripped CV boots. I don't know thorough they looked at them.
Also I was thinking of putting some monroe sensatrac shocks on my truck. Are they worth putting on? Yes I am from Madison, WI. |

Re: CV joints/boots
If you don't have any noise from them a re-boot will be fine. Sensa-tracs improved the ride on my 2002 greatly. Mine is stock & rarely goes off pavement.

Re: CV joints/boots
sensatracs are good for everyday use. as far as the price for boot replacement--unless you know how to do it yourself--$300-$400 is about the range for replacement.
if you're feeling adventurous--there are step by step instructins on 4x4wire.com

And yes, it would be worth it to get it done. Madison, WI in February is not the place to be doing car repairs - unless you have a complete tool collection, in a heated well lit garage, with babe calendars hanging on the front of the tool chest. I have only one of these three things, so off to the shop I'd go!
