gas gauge stays on empty,is gauge bad ,broke wire,truck runs fine but wont
move off of empty....any help???????cdc

Could be wiring between the sending unit and the gauge, but it's likely the sending unit itself. I've heard of the float on the sending unit filling up with fuel and "sinking". I've also seen the unit itself go bad. Looking at the Haynes manual, it looks like the sender is just a variable resistance to ground. If you ground the Yellow/White wire at the harness near the sender at the tank connector, the gauge should go to "Full". (As long as this diagram is accurate and applies to your vehicle). If it goes to full, the wiring is good and it looks like you'll be dropping the tank to replace the sender. There's also an anti-slosh module in the circuit, but someone else will have to explain what that is...

Even though the pump is physically mounted with the sender, it's on a different circuit, so the gauge shouldn't affect how the vehicle runs.

Well if you have not found out by now it is most likely a cracked float. the 89-94 models seem to have a problem with the plastic float in the gas tank getting a crack and filling up with gas and sinking to the bottom (so the gague always thinks it's empty) You have to drop the tank to get to it, and from what I've looked at and been told it's quite a project and unless it's a real problem you should wait till you need to drop the tank for something else to fix it.

I replaced the sender unit/pump with one from Auto Zone for $110.00, plus the ring that holds it to the tank. Took me 2 hrs to drop the tank and about the same to re-install. If you need any guidance, let me know or you could use the trip odometer and zero it out everytime you fill up!!!!
