2001 Wind Noise

I have a 2001 that seems to be getting air leakage through both front doors around the seal. It occurs when I am doing 40 plus MPH. I drive mainly in town so I don't get bothered with it to much but what I'd like to know is has anyone else experienced this issue ? If so what did you do? I have found new seals but at a cost of about $65.00 per door. Before I spend that much I want to be sure that will resolve my problem. Thanks

Re: 2001 Wind Noise

Before buying new seals, try this: Roll your windows tight, close the doors and turn the ac on high. Run your hand/ear along the suspected leaks and see if you can determine where it's coming from. If you can locate the source, build up the area with some putty.
If your old seals look good then new seals probably won't help and the problem probably has more to do with body clearances.
When it comes to listening for leaks, a stethescope works great if you have one, plastic tubing/pipe not bad either.
Seal integrity can be improved by coating them with thin coat of dilectric grease.

Re: 2001 Wind Noise

I don't want to appear as a complete moron, but should I be on the outside attempting to feel the air coming from the inside? If so I'm not sure this will work. As I noted before I need to be going at least 40 MPH's before the noise starts. Either way should I be outside ?? Thanks for any advice. It's a starting point.

Re: 2001 Wind Noise

yep, you're on the outside listening. You probably start to hear the noise at 40 because the outside pressure has increased to point where it leaks past the seal. You can put a similar amount of pressure on the seal with your a/c system (make sure you set it to bring it outside air). If this doesn't work, then you can try sitting next to the leaky door while someone else drives 40.
