So I'm helping out a friend...

Alright, this is new territory for me. I have no clue about domestics. My friend has a 1995 C/K1500 pickup (extended cab, long bed). I made the mistake of showing him the little trick where you flip the air filter cover and he loved the power, and especially the sound. He's got headers on the way and is planning true-duals with flowmaster 40 series mufflers. What else could give him a bump in power without breaking the bank? I was suggesting a cam, but I've never put one in a pushrod motor while the engine was still in the vehicle before. Also, we're not sure if his motor is the 305 or 350. We know it doesnt have the vortec heads if thats any clue to anything. Thanks for any help

There is a sticker on the fan shroud that tells you the engine size. Look on the top left corner of the sticker. 5.7 Liter is the 350 and 5.0 Liter is the 305. The Vortec engine was not introduced in GM trucks until 1996.

an edelbrock intake manifold might gain 5 or 10 ft/lb across the rpm range, thats gonna probly cost 2 or 3 hundred tho... you might try looking into those programer things, i dont know what they exactly do or how much they cost, i like older carbureted stuff personally, just because its so easy to work on... im too much of a puss to try and mess with computerized stuff lol

If the sticker on the fan shroud is gone the get the 8th vin digit. 5.7 = K, 5.0= H. To replace the cam in the vechile you will have to pull the radiator and condensor if it has ac.
