Angry 1998 Sunfire need help fast

I have a 1998 Sunfire and I had the water pump changed a few weeks back.
Just this last week the car is making loud noises. It almost sounds like a dissel.
I pop the hood and it sounds as if the timing chain is loose. It gets quiter as it warms up but it was no problem before this water pump. It is the 2.4 litre
motor. The same as the GT. It cost $1500 to replace. My question if anyone can help......... does it not sound like they did somthing wrong when they put the water pump in. They had to put a new tensioner kit in I wonder if they screwed up. I will take it in but I would like to have a little info before i go in case they give me a hard time.

Thanks

what all did they replace? just the tensioner? for $1500 you should have gotten the waterpump replaced, the timing chain assembly (the whole thing, not just the tensioner), and a lapdance.

you are supposed to replace EVERYTHING when you do the timing chain, not just one or two parts.

If they jumped the chain one tooth, then your in trouble, the 2.4L is a no clearance motor, pistons will hit valves. I doubt that has happened, as you would have known quickly.

A bad timing chain sounds like a 10 spped that's got a loose chain, or not in a gear all the way. I know, it's the tensioner not getting oil pressure that helped me find out the balance shafts were destroyed in my motor. Which got me a new, better motor to play with.

Hey hotbug. They did replace the water pump, and coolent, and tensioner.
The labour to do it was half the cost. Sounds like its their fault. I just wanted to get some info some someone more savy than myself.

Thanks
