When he puts heat in , it will work fine for a while till it gets low on gas then it will start choking again. The check engin light has been on several times and gone back off and when it does there is not problems. It just came back on the other day and now it is choking worse then ever. This has to be something it is progressing to. Today I filled the tank and on the way home it choked all the way up a slight incline. some one please give me an idea of what it is. I am going to change the plugs and wires but would love some input on this thing.Thanks. Lucy.

Beats me

. The first thing I would do, would prolly be taking it to autozone and getting the codes scanned for free. (I hopes that you'll buy replacement parts) I know some car are picky about the gas cap. If it's not completely sealed, it will run like crap. I am not sure if that is your problem, anything I've owned has been from the 90s, but one thing to try might be to retighten the gas cap when you're having issues. It would seem that when you put heat in there, maybe the cap is getting tightened a little tighter, creating a better seal. Also, the progression of it getting worse could be contributed to the seal on the fuel cap getting worse. I really honestly don't know if that rule applies to these trucks.
Definately get the codes scanned, when you see the CEL come on, the computer is trying to tell you there's a problem that needs addressed.
