2003 TrailBlazer?

hello chevy owners,

i am currently driving a 96 honda accord. its fast, low and a real bitch to drive everyday, so i am looking to buy a 03 chevy trailblazer b/c i need the room, i want the power of a chevy, the high ride hight and the good gas milage of a mis size SUV. but i havnet really gotten into the chevy trailblazer family to hear the pros and cons of the truck, so what better way than a web forum.

i alos have noticed that the truck comes in a V6 automatic 4sp. i was wondering if chevy or the GMC envoy offered a V6 automatic 5 sp?

thanks guys/girls

Re: 2003 TrailBlazer?

Inline 6, not V-6. Extended versions were/are offered with a 5.3 V-8, and this year I think that's expanded to the regular wheelbase unit. The SS has a 6.0.

No auto 5-speed.

Good luck on the "good gas milage of a mis size SUV". Trailblazers are kinda known for draining the gas tank.

Frickin' everything is run through the computer--and there seem to be a lot of people complaining about wiring/electrical issues. My '03 is fine except the headlights won't stay off...

Re: 2003 TrailBlazer?

Welcome!

For 2006, you can get either the 4.2L I6 or the 5.3L V8 in both the 5pass and 7pass TBs. Also, if you get an 06 SS, they come with an LS2 6.0L V8. All use 4spd auto trannys, though the SS gets a slightly beefier one than the others.
Mileage is okay, but the power of even the I6 is better than most if not all of the Explorers optional engines (including the V8s). They get 15/21- 5pass TB with the I6, and the V8 (with DOD) gets right about the same mileage, +-1mpg.

As for the headlights, do the DRL disable mod, costs you a relay, some wire, some connectors, and 20min of time. Did mine yesterday, and love the results! Plus, it also does the Quad Headlights (High + Lows).

For most people... nothing.

For a certain group, however, DRLs are the fingernails across a chalkboard of the road. Some folks have an irrational, visceral, intense hatred of DRLs. Apparently, a lot of those type of folks are members of the NMA http://www.motorists.com/issues/drl/

In fact, the phenomenon of DRL-hatred has been known to cause otherwise rational people to barge into an automotive forum with screaming, all-caps vindictive denunciation of DRLs in a thread title, earning them such .sig line badges of honor as "dumbass" and DUMBEST poster. (Hi, Shurkey!)

Some studies indicate they increase safety; others show they don't.
They royally piss off a few people; the vast majority don't give a F.

If anybody wants to disconnect theirs, I say Go For It. Your ride; you should determine how it lights up.

For my money, the quad lighting is far more attractive than quashing the DRLs. Has anybody looked at the current draw it puts on the headlight circuits (wiring, fuses, etc)? They weren't designed for quad use -- are they over-engineered enough to handle it? Does the mod allow separate high and low, as well as both (and how do you switch between the three)?

Re: 2003 TrailBlazer?

Well, the reason I diasbled my DRLs is because I run SilverStar headlights and am tired of replacing the $25-30bulbs every year because they are on all the time. Also, for me it is a precursor to an HID installation which I hope to do in the near future. It is bad for HIDs to flash when you unlock/lock your car and also to have them off and then come on for a minute as you go through a tunnel to then go back off once you exit the tunnel. The HID bulbs will not last very long under these circumstances because they take a minute or two to warm up.

As for the Quad beams, the power is drawn from the repsective stock harness, the lows draw from the low relay and the highs from the high relay. All the mod (there are two, and I have done both at seperate times) does is to run a wire from the high beam on wire to a relay which then outputs power to the low beam wire when the highs are put on. This is the original one I did and it does not touch the DRLs. The second one involves cutting one wire under the rear fusebox and splicing another to disable DRLs and give Quad Beams. Unless you want to put a switch inbetween when the lows come on for the high beams, the lows and highs will be on all the time when the high beams are on. When the lows are on by themselves, nothing is different, only the lows are on. There is no way to only have the high beams by themselves on once you have done either of these mods, but why would you ever need to only have the highs on and not both?

Re: 2003 TrailBlazer?

Can someone tell me if there is something wrong with my TB? I'm replacing the brake pads and rotors which are really rusty. I removed the caliper and the brake pads. However, I can't seem to get the old rotor off to replace it with the new one. Is there somthing special I need to do to remove the rotor?
