Re: 92 Lebaron Stumbles On Acceleration
I had the same problem with my 1990 LeBaron convertible. In addition to stumbling on acceleration, my car could lose power at highway speeds and drop from 65 to 35 mph! When I pulled over it would often recover and then I could drive normally for a distance before the problem started up again. I discovered the problem was caused by a bad oxygen sensor. Bought a new NGK sensor (part number 23023) on eBay for just $43.90 and, although I'm no mechanic, it installed in minutes. The oxygen sensor is threaded into a hole in the manifold behind the engine and just below the firewall. To get at it you'll remove the air cleaner, air input tube and other minor parts as required. To install you will need a special oxygen sensor socket (to protect the sensor leads from damage) on a lug wrench. Be sure to warm up the car a little before trying to remove the old sensor. Otherwise you'll have a difficult or impossible task. Also, use Liquid Wrench on the old sensor to help break its thread bond in the manifold. In summary, this is a fast and relatively easy fix.
