Cool 1996 Monte Carlo LS, "Service Engine Soon" light/sensor

After having two loyal service repair technicians reset the "Service Engine Soon" light/sensor displayed on my 1996 Chevy Monte Carlo LS. The car runs great at 103,000 miles but the light still appears and is constantly lit. Any ideas/remedies?

Well I wasn't exactly sure and hope by my posting that that would shed some light, but obviously it wasn't specific enough. So let's say that yeah, that it is code 3.1 or even P1406 - EGR Pintle position? Let's go with those two scenarios. Thank you.

The code refers to the postion that the egr sensor percieves the pintle to set at based on the command from the pcm, you could take it off, clean the pintle, reinstall, clear the code and see what happens. Keep in mind I asked for the info based on the potential for up to 100 code possibilities and they vary by engine.

I do not have the neccessary tools to diagnose the problem or clear the codes, but can I do the other things as in cleaning the pintle or the the connections of the pcm you are refering to? As in location in the under the hood or dash? Again, thanks for your help in this matter.

The egr is under the hood should have 3 solenoids on it, just behind the throttle body, don't worry about the pcm for now. You could check autozone.com/repairinfo for more access details.
