Question Replacing Keyless Module on 98 Explorer Sport

I just got a new-to-me 1998 Ford Explorer Sport, and am having problems with my keyless module. The local Ford dealer wants to extract the door code from the module, which is listed on the case of the module, and then tells me that my FOB doesn't work because there is something inside the module that isn't working.

I just got my second key made for it, which cost 75 at the dealer, found a locksmith on www.clearstar.com that made one for 50! But, if I change the module, will the key still work, or will I have to have new numbers programmed into it

Also, can you replace just the module yourself, with the theft system installed

why don't you try progamming the FOB yourself, as far as the module if you know where it is you can just look at the case and look at the numbers on it i'll find out how and where and repost later
