Re: removing door panel on 96 SL1
the mirror cover (little triangle thing) is held on by clips, it just pops off. the door panel is held on by a few screws, one in bottom corner, 2 just below handle, and one in the door handle cup. pop off the little cover (if you have power door locks its that cover) on the door handle cup and unclip the connector to power door locks if equipped. now you will notice some rods, all you do is pop the clip off the rod (just push on the plastic and it will come off) and lift the rod out. once those are off, you can pull the door handle cup out. now if you have power windows, you dont need to do this, but if you have crank windows, then you will have to pop the handle off. this is held on by a little clip between the crank and plastic washer. if you can see it, it can be shoved in on (or popped off) by a small screwdriver but its best to buy the tool to get it off. once its off, door cup out, screws out, mirror cover popped off, you can lift up, NOT OUT, on the door. it has clips that slip down into the door. you lift up till a certain point, and then can pull it off.
now speaker size kind of depends on the speaker company. factory speakers are 6.5 oversize. ive used regular 6.5 in rockford fosgate speakers, but my blaupunkts dont fit properly. go with the 6.5 oversize, some say 6.75 but should probably also say 6.5 oversize. |
