2001 4x4 sonoma 4x4 problems

I have a 2001 sonoma 4x4. When I push the 4x4 button the light blinks I hear a relay click but it just stays in 2 wheel drive. The first time it did this I reset the puter and that fixed it for a short time. Now that doesnt fix it.

Your computer may be getting leaked on....

Check your 4x4 computer. It should be located behind the front passanger tick panel. These trucks are known to have a body leak that leaks direcly onto the 4x4 computer.

You will notice green crud on the carpet below the computer and water marks on the computer.

Take the unit off and see if you can repair the connector terminals. You can also check if the board of the computer looks damaged.

Computers are not cheap and if you do put a new one in you should protect the computer with a plastic shield or go to a "leak pro" company to get the leak sealed.

My computer was damaged beyond repair in my 2000 Jimmy and I'm still looking for a cheap replacement.

Re: 2001 4x4 sonoma 4x4 problems

If you used the search button, you would have seen this has been covered thousands of times before....sigh

1st Check vac actuator under battery tray for tears, or leaks, and that the vac hose is connected. Replace if found

2nd Check vac hose leading from vac actuator to vac switch on transfer case for cracks and dry rot. Replace if found.

3rd Check remaining 2 hoses from vac switch on transfer case for dryrot or cracks Replace if found.

If all of the above are fine, disconnect your negative battery cable for 1/2 hour then reconnect it. If your 4x4 works after that you probably have a failing TCCM (Transfer case control module)

If that doesn't solve it, it's most likely the encoder motor
