As far as I can tell there is a grommet through the firewall located above and to the right of the brake pedal. Am I correct in my assumption? And if so, how do I get through it?What exactly am I trying to push through at this location? Is there a better place for me to run a power supply from the battery into the interior for an audio amp? Also, the starter is on its lats legs. It may take a dozen turns of the key before it finally turns over the engine. Does anyone have a starter for a 96? Can the solenoid be replaced or is this starter all one unit? Thanks for the help!

Re: Getting through the 96 firewall!
You most likely have bad starter contacts inside the solenoid of the starter. They can be replaced seperately. They are a dealer only part. Do a search on this forum for "starter contacts" and read up on the problem and the procedure.

Re: Getting through the 96 firewall!
Those grommets can be made of plastic or rubber. Many times, you end up having to drill through the metal to open up a hole into the firewall. If you have to do that, add your own rubber grommet afterward to avoid wiring getting cut up on the sharp edges. Just make sure you triple check where you're drilling if it comes to that. A good spot to drill would be where the clutch assembly would normally be if you have an automatic.

Re: Getting through the 96 firewall! Found a solution!!
Thanks for the firewall help. I have found a way through on my 96 2 door LE.Standing in front of the car looking at the engine,in the upper left section there is a wire harness going into the interior. It is about 2-3 inches round.Pull the rubber boot away from the firewall and feed the cable in through the opening. I had a friend reach up under the glove box (he actually poked his finger through the hole in the firewall!) to grab and pull the cable into the interior. It took less than 5 minutes! No drilling...no punching through grommets!

Re: Getting through the 96 firewall!
No problem. Just make sure that spot where you went through isn't prone to getting a lot of water in that area, otherwise you run the risk of having a wet floorboard. Good luck with everything.
