numbers question
can i get the specs to my cars engine by going to the dealership and having them look up the numbers on computer, and if so where are the numbers most easily read on the engine.

it's a 1968 el camino with a 327 i know it has the cammel hump heads but i want to know if they are the 1.94 intake or the 2.02 the guy i bought it from said that it was a rare optioned 325 horsepower engine and i am dying to know if he is right because he gave me the facts on it and said that he himself looked up the numbers but had no paperwork he sounded like he knew what he talking about and sounded legit, either way i know i have at least 275 horsepower so once again my question is what is the easiest way of looking up numbers to get all the specs of an engine i know to get the numbers off the cylinder head on the pass side

If you want to let me know what the number on the little pad on the front of the block by the passanger cylinder head, and the number on the heads under the valve cover, I have a pretty good book on the casting numbers of small block Chevys. I should be able to tell you quite a bit about the motor and cylinder heads.

Virtually all "double hump" heads were 1.94" intake valves. Only the 365 and 375 HP versions had 2.02s. They sdhold have the casting number of "461 X" (last three digits). This is a common misconception among small block folks. A '68 should have "291" castings. A 325 HP 327 is a pretty good runner. The only more powerful version with a hydraulic cam was the 350 horse version. 365 and 375 had the legendary "Duntov 30-30" cam (solid, flat tappet).
