Windshield Washer Pump...
Seems like the windshield washer pump on my '99 Taurus Wagon SE (Duratec) has quit. When I press the end of the control stalk I hear a little click-click-click from somewhere under the hood but no fluid sprays.
I guess since I hear a clicking sound it means that power is getting to the pump. Where is the pump though? In the reservoir or elsewhere? Is this something I can fix myself, and is it a hassle to get to the pump? Any advice would really be appreciated! |

Re: Windshield Washer Pump...
I know on my SHO and my LX Sedan the washer pump is fitted into a sealing groment near the bottom of the resrevior.
Since it is a bit of a pain in the ass replacing it, the car has to be jacked up and you have to deal with hoses and splash gaurd removal. I would recommend going to a mechanic it would cost about $30usd retail plus the labor. A good mechanic could probably be able to do it in about 35 minutes. |

Re: Windshield Washer Pump...
Out of curiosity I tried it for the first time since I made the original post above... and it's working fine now.
Huh? The elves must have fixed it or something. |

Re: Windshield Washer Pump...
I don't know about the generation 3 taurus, but on the generation 1 taurus you can simply remove one bolt holding the plastic tank, then pull the tank up slightly and remove any hoses and electrical wires and easily remove the tank from the car to replace the pump. I really don't know about the Generation 3 taurus. This could be another case of giving a new meaning to the word progress. I hope someone else comments so we both or should I say all three of us knows if this simple method I explained for the gen. 1 Taurus will work on the gen. 3. More comments please from someone familiar with the gen. 3 washer pump.

Re: Windshield Washer Pump...
I think you have to remove the degas bottle, aka coolant recovery tank, to get at a couple of fittings hiding underneath for the the windshield washer bottle, also you have to work thru the wheel well for another fitting, you'll have to take off the splash shield within the wheel well.. the washer motor is held in by some sort of a grommet, you just pull it out and snap it back in, unlike the older ones which were held in with a funky looking metal ring.
