00 gls jetta

G/F just got this with 55k miles great shape...I used to own a 96 jetta but sold it..

Im wondering whats the basics on these cars...I know around 80-90 k im guessing normal T-belt and all..But besides keeping oil changed and plugs/wires and stuff..

Is there really any real prob's these cars has...I know my 96 came across alot of them with speedometer acting up and all..

Hers is already seeming weird..

TEMP guage on speedometer keeps going down to 0 and then will come back up while driving keeps doing it while on HWY up and down up and down..

Also we turned the heater on today and it was making a weird loud noise from under dash sounded like...Then we got out turned car off to eat came back started it and it had stopped...

^^Anyone have any info on these issues...

Ive searched around the forum a bit and i used to be on here for my 96 jetta but on other part of forum..

Let me know whatever...

Thx later

Re: 00 gls jetta

looks like your jetta and my jetta are twins. same problems here the only difference is my airbag light comes on when it gets pretty cold out but otherwise the temp gauge does that when someone had already touched the flange that hold the temp sending unit how do I know I've change the flange on my jetta already leaked so bad that I had to buy coolant every week to fill until I got tired of it and fixed it my self, now my temp gauge goes up to normal and then it goes down kind of scary don't you think? the noise from your heater don't bother it'll cost you a lot of money to get this fix they say that they have to replace the blower motor on my jetta just because it's making that noise when it gets cold only when it gets cold! also check engine light is very common for these 00 jetta first would be the fuel regulator vacuum hose line that they have to replace unless you have the hanes book (the bible)

Re: 00 gls jetta

1) replace you engine coolant temperature sensor
2) blower motors are a common problem on theese cars (either make a whining noise or flapping noise) maybe you have a leaf stuck in yours? blower motor is above passenger feet

Re: 00 gls jetta

well sent her in the shop to have new belt put on and temp sensor exactly what you all said put on...The noise went away from blower motor next day hasnt came back so im guessing a leaf or something...

Ran it by VW dealer had mechanic come out and check it out he told us quite a bit about the car by just looking at outside, Smart guy...
