Unhappy Fixed headlights and now this....

Why would the oil light flicker when driving at 75-80mph on interstate? I stopped and checked oil level. It was about a half a quart low. It is about oil change time, just don't wanna do it while its sleeting and snowing. Would the oil be breaking down? It didnt flicker at idle, it did on acceleration and deceleration till I got back under 60 mpg. I added oil and it stopped but it was after I was on city streets and not driving as fast. Could it be pulling the oil out of the pan to fast? It takes 6 quarts to read full on oil dipstick and I bought a new one and it reads the same. It may have a differ pan.
Any ideas?
Oil pump going bad?

They don't normally go bad on the neon, one of the few things that doesn't, but it's not impossible. Could be your pressure switch connection.

Re: Fixed headlights and now this....

I am going to replace sending unit and do a check on the wiring. Wife still driving, so I am guessing its not an oil pressure issue.

I hope your wife driving it isn't causing more damage. I'd check the spark plugs after all that and see if they are covered in oil from overfilling the engine.

I will check those also!! I just checked them about a month ago and they were ok. But, its a differ month and all is possible.
AS for my wife driving, not much choice. its her daily driver. She puts about 5000 every 3 months, So the miles keep rolling.I have to pull the battery just to slow the car down
LOL

Re: Fixed headlights and now this....

Well, I did what a true redneck would do. I told my wife I could do 2 options. I could put black tape over the light or just take the light out. She is still driving it and oil light is still flashing. She says it doesnt bother her, so I said drive it!. If it is a good car it should go for another 10,000 miles. Then we will go from there.
