2 questions new here

Ok I just bought my jeep two days ago and it is perfect, but I have two concerns/ problems. When it is cold out and I try and shift into second gears I here a grinding sounds when the truck is trying to go into second. It goes away when it is warmed up but is still difficult to go in gear. It is not that hard it just makes a quick grind then goes in no problem.

My second problem is the e-brake is way out of adjustment. I have to pull it all the way up to the very top in order for it to have any amount of stopping power. How do I adjust this?

what year is your jeep? if it has the AX15 trans, I've heard that the syncros tend to wear out, especailly the 1st to 2nd, might want to look into that if you have the AX15 trans.

as far as the e-break, there should be an adjuster, it will either be right by the pedal, where the cable attatches to it, or underneeth where the cable runs along the frame.

I just changed the transmission fluid in the jeep and it shifts perfect now. The old fluid in it was mud colored and aerated. I am still not sure about the e-brake though. I tightened it up, but, when I am parked on a hill the jeep still slides down it even with the tightened e-brake, and in gear. Is it possible that the disc brakes are low in the back?

if its in gear and its still sliding backwards..you have issues..

It slides backwords very slowly. I am talking about on steep hills. Does anyone know any way to fix this I am going to try replacing the rear brake shoes.

It is actually a very easy fix... Do not go wasting your time replacing the rear brakes - thats not the problem. The problem is the adjustment in the tensioner of the brake cable itself. Crawl under the Jeep, follow the cable from the emergency brake handle towards the rear axle. Find the tensioner and adjust it. (Very simple to figure out.) Don't over do it, just enough to keep it secure when the emergency brake is engaged. You will know if you are adjusting it in the right direction because you will notice when activating your emergency brake the handle will stop before it reaches the top.
