Re: valve cover remove,instructions

http://www.vfaq.com/FAQlocator-index.html

used that site last weekend. check under engine. There is then a listing for the 2.0l engine 1g. But I used it on my 2g gst just fine.

However if you have a gs it's not gonna be the same but the idea's the same.

While your doing it replace the valve cover gasket. 20 bucks well spent!

Re: valve cover remove,instructions

Have you even looked under your hood? Its not that hard, theres a handfull of easy to get at bolts, its not brain surgery.

Re: valve cover remove,instructions

I think there was 14 on the gst?

like 8 outside the cover, 6 under the spark plug cover. IIRC Plus removal of timing belt cover (2 bolts?)

Once you get them out removing the cover was a pain. I hit it with a mallet a few times. Didn't budge it. So I took a screw driver (old crappy one) and a hammer. I went in right where the valve cover seal was and tapped in the screw driver then pried along the front side lightly (as to not bend anything). Eventually I got it off. Turns out the gasket was all dry rotted and cracking.

Clean your valve cover while your at it, also make sure you use some high temp gasket sealant on the new gasket should you choose to change it. You don't want it leaking after you get it back together.

Re: valve cover remove,instructions

Don't forget to remove the PCV valve, which is on the back left side of the Valve cover.

Re: valve cover remove,instructions

not to jack the thread,i can tell a nice difference in acceleration,i also rigged a air duct hose from that open part in our bumpers right to the top of the intake filter and wedged a funnal in that hole in the bumper and put the hose on the back with zip ties, like a cheesy ram air.but it is noticable.

That is a long ass sentence... There is spell check for a reason, it helps with grammar. No need to get all pissy. It was an honest question, why wouldnt you look at it before asking how many bolts there were? Since you had an 2 hours before someone answered your question, are you that lazy to get off your ass and walk out to your car and count the bolts? You are the one being a jack off.

Its easy... Take out the bolts, unplug the coil pack and pull out the spark plug wires, pull off the vacuum line connecting the PCV valve to the intake and intake manifold. Done.

Re: valve cover remove,instructions

Like somebody else said before, MAKE SURE YOU CLEAN THE SURFACE WHERE THE GASKET SITS. Also don't overtighten and don't leave them too loose, if you do this then the gaskets not doing much good.
