Shifter...

I am getting my clutch replaced and i've been told theres bearings in the car under the shift boot is this true, or is it the cable like i've read before? if so should i get these replaced at the same time or?

I just installed a B&M short throw shifter in my cavalier and i had cables, metal rods. I havent heard of very many cars to still have the bearing style shifters

2000 - 2004 has 2 metal rods and a weird lookin yellow piece thats connects to a clip...

sorry should've given more info, my car is a 96 2.2 manual if that assists, its not in the 2000-2004 range
